NIGHT STALKER BOOK
REVIEWS
"Carlo has given
us an astonishing portrait of a killer not seen since In Cold
Blood."
~Denis Hamil, NY Daily News
"We've all read
novelists and true crime writers who try to put you inside-the-mind-of-the-serial-killer,
but I can't remember one that succeeded with the physical and
psychological intimacy of this collaboration between the writer
and the killer himself."
~John Strausbausch, New York Press
"An exceptionally well-told true crime
tale."
~Publishers Weekly
"Phil Carlo paints a disturbing portrait
of cold-blooded killer, Richard Ramirez. In the true crime tradition
of In Cold Blood and The Executioner's Song, Carlo compellingly
tells the ghastly story from numerous points of view, including
those of Ramirez and two ingenious sheriff's detectives who finally
cracked the case."
~People Magazine
"…This book will provide true crime
readers chilling inside perspective of a serial killer."
~Library Journal
"Carlo's book is filled with never-known-before
details. He did his homework and wrote a very compelling true crime
tale."
~Ann McDermitt, CNN
"This is the definitive book on America's
most feared serial killer. The writing is so intimate, you actually
feel like a voyeur reading this book. A must read that will return
you to the time when no one could sleep in Los Angeles because of the
Stalker. A real page turner."
~Tony Valdez, FOX TV Los Angeles
"I stayed up until 3:00 a.m. because I couldn't
put the book down. Quite a compelling read. The amount of details is
truly amazing."
~Jordan Legion, San Jose Mercury News
"Absorbing…detailed, Phil Carlo allows
the killer's grotesque acts to be squarely view."
~The Los Angeles Times Book Review
"Carlo's book is a chilling, painstakingly
researched account of the summer that kept residents of the San Gabriel
Valley and later the entire state, captive behind closed doors and
windows in fear. I read the book twice I was so taken by it."
~Anne LeJeunesse, Northridge Chronical
"A hell of a tale."
~Michael Smith, WABC Radio
"For sure one of the best true crime books
ever written. A real page turner."
~Steve Kaplouity, KLAQ Radio, El Paso
"I couldn't put the book down. The details
are amazing, told from many points of view; very scary indeed."

"This book was very well written—factual,
eloquent, thorough, detailed, objective. The writer takes you from
beginning to end of this vicious, evil and heartrending account of
a serial killer's trail. This book will give you goose bumps especially
if you live in the LA basin, even now. It's a "hit home hard" story
that will give you lumps in your throat at the obvious disregard
this killer had for his victims. His allegiance to the devil incited
my hunger to increase my awareness of and find out more about devil-worshipers
and their love for Satan. It will make you check your doors and windows
twice before going to bed at night."

"...the single best true-crime non-fiction
I've ever read. Philip Carlo did a truly awesome job of researching
this book, and though his accounting of the crimes is painstaking,
it never, ever gets tedious or boring. Carlo did an incredible job
of getting into the mind of the killer, his background, everything
true crime non-fiction usually leaves out, to the reader's usual
dissatisfaction. His accounting of the crimes was stunning, in that
the reader finds his/herself "right
there," and can relate so well to the victims that the reader
feels, sees, hears what they saw....including terror. At the same
time, Carlo uses absolutely no gratuitous material, which he could
easily do. He fully describes, in enormous and graphic detail, crimes
that were, in themselves, graphic, bloody, sexually violent, and
horrifying, without ever once crossing the line into gratuitous "stuff." Another
reviewer said that Carlo lets the crimes speak for themselves, and
that's really true...he doesn't need to embelish these crimes, and
he doesn't. This is really a mesmerizing and engaging book. I recommend
it to anyone who is interested in forensics or true crime."

"Carlo did an excellent job capturing
Ramirez's thoughts during his rampage of hate and violence. I felt
the fear he put into L.A. I make sure my doors AND windows are
locked. But never did I feel sorry for the killer, the victims
yes. So many true crime books are poorly written. Great job Carlo."

His Enviroment, You Have To Factor Everything In To See What Makes
Him Tick, Again This Book Is Pure Genius, Described Very Well, And
Just Simply One Of The Best Books About Someone Besides A Biography."
~Reader from Washington
"Unbelievable!! This book will grip you from
beginning to end. Definitely a quick read. The author has written
in a way that makes you feel like you actually know the killer and
his victims. You will find yourself becoming (unbelievably) emotional
about the killer. At times you want to hate him, then in the next
page you find yourself feeling so sorry for this poor guy that you
just want to cry for him—which I did several times. I especially
enjoyed reading this book because it didn't get hung up in hundreds
of pages of technical jargon that's hard to follow like a lot of
true crime books out there—it
reads like a spine tingling novel—hard to believe it's all
real!! You have got to read this book! I now find myself wondering
what happened to Richard and what he's doing today—it really
grips you that tightly! WOW."
